Wimbledon sees the 136th staging of the Championships, which began in 1877 with Great Britain's Spencer Gore defeating compatriot William Marshall 61 62 64 for the inaugural title. This is the 55th staging of the Championships in the Open Era, the first being in 1968 when Australia's Rod Laver defeated compatriot Tony Roche 63 64 62 in the final. 2023 Wimbledon is the 221st Grand Slam tournament of the Open Era. This is the 2nd edition of the Championships to feature a tiebreak to 10 points when the score reaches 6-6 in the final set. It is the 4th edition of the Championships to feature a final-set tiebreak - in 2019 and 2021, a tiebreak to 7 points was played when the score reached 12-12 in the final set. DJOKOVIC BIDS FOR MORE GRAND SLAM HISTORY Four-time defending champion Novak Djokovic is bidding to win his 24th Grand Slam title and extend his all-time record for most Grand Slam men's singles titles, ahead of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
